Don Miller of MSMM.com, The Branded Version?
April 6, 2008
This weeks spotlight is Don Miller from MakingSalesMakingMoney.com
I work with Don on 2 separate projects and I can tell you that Don is one Passionate guy. His passion
is for people!
Landon:
as far as MSMM.com goes, how much time do you spend writing and how much time do you spend
marketing your posts?
Don:
Frankly, I am a content guy first and I generally do a significant amount of time thinking about my content.
So to answer your question, I don’t stop thinking, as for the actual writing of a post, I can pound out what
I need in about an hour.
Marketing my material? Not quite as much as I used to, at least not the way I used to. I generally post
everything on Blogging Zoom and let it pretty much go from there. I have found that once you have
established a presence, people find you more often than we think and that is part of the model I like
to follow. Just like thinking I market when I’m awake, perhaps using different techniques and different
venues than you might think.
Landon:
Where do you get your ideas from? I mean, where do most of your ideas originate from? Other blogs?
Reader questions? etc
Don:
I do try to stay on topic for my blog, but I do stray form time to time. My ideas come form everyone I
interact with. Often time’s people just want to be heard, I listen and post what I find. If we break it all
down, long before we were bloggers and home based business owners, we were people. Separate
the wheat from the chaff and you got a story. Guaranteed every tine, it is people. We all have a story.
I can walk into the grocery store right now and get a story in 10 minutes.
Landon
Who are the top bloggers you follow and why?
Don:
Courtney Tuttle is probably at the top of my list and there is a reason for that. Back when I was new and
knew nothing other than I wanted to get my ideas out there he published one of my articles to Project on
his site. I turned it in late and he posted it anyway. My site went form 8 links to 100’s seemingly overnight.
I then got to know him and found out what I has suspected, he is genuine. He wrote an e-mail to me
recently that completely changed the way I do business. Most call him Court I call him friend and mentor.
I met Vic Franqui @ Blogger Unleashed through Blogging Zoom, oddly he and Court own Blogging Zoom.
He evaluated my site one day while talking on Skype. That wasn’t a fun day for me LMAO, but he was real,
truthful and helpful. He supports what I am trying to accomplish and I have never received a bad word of
advice from him. We go about our business different, but I know he keeps an eye on me and vice-versa.
Friends like that are hard to come by.
Landon:
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not on the computer?
Don:
I am addicted to baseball, I Am Don Miller and I am a baseballaholic! I had the pleasure of writing for
ESPN for 3 years as a Fantasy Correspondent for the Tampa Bay Rays, which was a hoot. I didn’t realize
it at the time, but that was the preparation for what I do today. Other than that I like fine dining and I watch
two TV shows a week House and American Idol, and baseball of course. I’m having a TV put in my office
so I can do both. It’s a sickness, you don’t cure it , you just recover
Landon:
What are the top 3 social communities you visit and why?
What do you look for in a social network?
Don:
Blogging Zoom, I have a decent following there and I have met some wonderful people as well. I look to
network essentially with everyone I meet.
I use Stumble doesn’t everyone?
I worked with Sphinn recently some and Digg as well.
Each has its own community of people I work with.
Landon:
What qualities do you look for in others before you add them to your “crew”- the people you work with
closely in the blogging world?
Don:
Integrity, Character and Honesty, all 3 are a must. They must be like minded in their desire to have
an impact on …you guessed it … people
Landon:
What is your goal for the next 12 months?
Don:
I suppose my goal is to be a full time net-troprneur. My plan is to have 100 sites by years end. I plan to
continue to work my flagship blog MSMM. I am going to provide a network of home based business
support for those with a dream an idea and a passion. Landon when I draw my last breath, when it’s
all said and done I want people to say I knew Don and he had an impact. That is what wakes me up
each day, and Ill be damned if I’m going to let anyone stand in my way of that.
I have started writing at MSMM.com about Branding, check it out.
